What you'll need

APS certificate

The mandatory verification of your academic documents that Indian students need before applying and for the visa.

University admission

An offer/admission letter, usually via uni-assist or the university's portal.

Blocked account (Sperrkonto)

About one year of living costs (≈ €11,904, set annually) in a blocked account, released to you monthly.

Health insurance

German health insurance (public providers like TK/AOK) valid for your studies.

Language proof

IELTS/TOEFL for English programs, or TestDaF/DSH for German-taught programs.

Documents & passport

Legalised academic documents, Europass CV, SOP and a valid passport.

The application process

  1. 1Get your APS certificate (start early — it takes a few weeks)
  2. 2Apply to universities via uni-assist and receive your offer
  3. 3Open your blocked account (Sperrkonto) and arrange health insurance
  4. 4Complete the VIDEX form and register on the consular portal
  5. 5Book your VFS / consulate appointment and submit the application
  6. 6Attend the interview, then travel and register at the Bürgeramt
Working & staying on

Work about 120 full or 240 half days a year while you study. After graduating, an 18-month job-seeker permit lets you find work in your field — a direct path to the EU Blue Card and permanent residency.
